NCD Kit

A Non Communicable Diseases (NCD) medical Kit used by the medical workers and the Asha workers in conducting their routine checkups in the rural parts of India with ease. The electronic equipment's in the kit was Solar powered thorough a battery pack.

Requirement Study
A detailed Study was done to understand the need for a NCD kit and what should comprise in it. Detailed interviews were conducted with the Asha workers (health workers) to understand their day to day routine and the pattern in which they conduct their inspections.
Component study &
Placements
The NCD kit was supposed to be a collection of all the basic medical equipment that a health worker can use in the most remote area in India. A stethoscope, Pulse oximeter, Digital blood pressure monitor, Digital blood sugar checker etc. where some of the few equipment chosen. The kit also needed to have space to put all the bio hazard wastes to dispose off later safely. The solar charged battery pack placement had to be crucial for the weight balance due to which it was placed at the bottom with additional paddings. Those were some of the few design considerations that were taken into account while developing the kit.

Sketching and Ideation
Some basic sketches were done to understand the placement of the components inside the bag. It also gave a basic idea of the overall dimension of the finished product and how we can optimize the space inside to make it small and light weight.
Components Assembly
The equipment for the kit was sourced and their features and dimensions carefully studied to make the bag as compact as possible.

Slingshot design
For the first set of kits we had considered a slingshot bag design as the number of equipment were relatively less. But as we started adding more components including a solar charged battery pack to run the electric equipment a new bag design had to thought of that would make the life of the health workers much more simpler.
Shoulder bag design
With all the equipment and components considered and also the safety and comfort of the users analyzed we had redesigned another version of the NCD kit into a shoulder bag form factor. Reviews had come from the health workers that this type of design gives them a lot of adaptability in the field and also they didn't have to carry an additional bag for their personnel belongings as we had given an extra space for that too. Care was also given to make sure the wirings that would charge the equipment from the battery does not get tampered with with daily usage and was compactly placed through the insides of the bag.

We have a winner!
The shoulder bag design was the peoples choice winner and this was put into mass replication. Additional changes were made with all the suggestions and review comments from the health workers along the way while they used the initial designs.
Additional protection
A waterproof sleeve was later added on to the bag considering the erratic weather patterns that the workers had faced. This would also help them keep the expensive equipment inside the bag safely. Some of the workers even had to cross rivers and wade through flowing water to reach remote Adivasi settlements where in the extra protection and paddings helped to keep the whole bag safe.

Happy Doctor
This would be Ram who was in charge of the whole program from Selco Foundation. The smile speaks thousand words.
Army of bags ready to march
All the bags were made and the components assembled at its respective places and ready to be delivered for duty.
